Family & Consumer Science
The family and consumer sciences program focuses on the development of management skills needed throughout the life span. The program is committed to empowering students to fulfill individual, family, community, and work roles to achieve a balance in the interaction among these roles in a diverse global society. The relationship between work and family is the unique focus. Instruction in family and consumer sciences programs and courses incorporates and reinforces Virginia Standards of Learning in math, science, English and social studies. The basic skills of mathematics, science, and communications will be highlighted when appropriate in the content.
This course is designed to focus on:
- assessing the impact of the parenting role in society
- taking responsibility for personal growth within the parenting role
- preparing for a healthy, emotional, and physical beginning for parent and child
- meeting developmental needs of children and adolescents
- building positive parent-child relationships
