Our students come from many high schools in the county and bring with them varied reading and writing experiences and skill levels. We offer students the opportunity to experience language as a source of influence, discovery and enjoyment. Mountain View English teachers are committed to teaching students how to use language powerfully and successfully. 

The Mountain View English program is built on the understanding that flexibility and individualization are crucial in an open enrollment school. This individualization also applies to assessment, evaluation, and testing. The teachers begin by diagnosing and addressing student academic interests, strengths and deficits, and then tailor the reading, writing, speaking and research experiences to those unique interests and needs.

Students read a variety of literature, exploring the characteristics of different forms and relating life situations to literary themes. Through varied and frequent writing assignments, students build on their understanding of writing as a process of prewriting, drafting, revising, and publishing.
